KVIA-TV Sports Director
KVIA-TV is the dominant #1 station in the El Paso, Texas/Las Cruces, New Mexico market. We are seeking a dynamic and creative sports director to lead our sports coverage across all platforms.

The ideal candidate will be a versatile professional with a strong on-air and social presence, exceptional storytelling abilities and a keen understanding of sports. They will lead coverage of our two local Division 1 universities, professional baseball, soccer, and a vibrant high school sports scene.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a strategic vision for the sports department.
- Oversee day-to-day operations of sports department - including assigning and supervising sports reporter.
- Write, shoot, and edit content for on-air, online, and social media.
- Develop/maintain relationships with sports teams, athletic departments and athletes to secure interviews and access.
- Collaborate with news director, broadcast & digital managers, and producers to coordinate sports coverage across all platforms.
- Monitor sports trends and developments to identify newsworthy stories.
- Maintain calendar to plan and create unique storytelling packages (2-3 times weekly).
- Mentor and coach staff members to help them grow and develop.
- Adhere to strict journalistic standards, ethics, and guidelines in all reporting endeavors.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or related field preferred.
- Strong on-air presence and excellent communication skills.
- Proficiency in video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro) and multimedia production tools.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced news environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of AP style, news writing principles, and storytelling techniques.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules.
- Must pass a pre-employment background check, MVR check, drug screening and possess a valid driver license.
