Job Description

We are recruiting for a motivated Registered Nurse (RN)- Correctional Care to join our team! Under general supervision, the professional nurse adheres to the American Nurses Association (ANA) standards of professional nursing and performance, and the ANA Code of Ethics to provide care to all healthcare consumers. Applies critical thinking, evidence-based practices, and competence to collaborate with the health care team to promote excellence in healthcare consumer safety and quality outcomes. Utilizes the Theory of Human Caring and Caritas in daily practice. The Correctional Care nursing staff provides clinical care at either Downtown Detention Center or the Denver County Jail. These environments of care have a higher level of clinical acuity and environmental hazard than inpatient and ambulatory nursing settings based on the nature of the facility. The detention centers employ a high level of security, which impacts daily working conditions, including both personal and institutional safety and clinical operations. Environmental awareness, critical thinking, and decisive, decision-making skills are required in the correctional care setting. Essential Functions include maintaining a broad and comprehensive nursing scope of practice including infant, pediatric, and adult clinical care; preventive care, emergent care/crisis response, triage skills, general acute care skills, and behavioral health skills; specialty skills such as eating disorders, oncological care, and IV therapy; monitoring, recording and reporting symptoms and changes in patient’s condition and vital signs; maintaining accurate, detailed reports and records; developing and modifying patient care plans and treatment plans; consulting and coordinating with health care team members; monitoring all aspects of patient care; directing and supervising less skilled nursing/health care personnel; preparing patients for and assisting with examinations and treatments; assessing needs of individuals, families and/or communities; instructing on health education and disease prevention; administering nursing care; medication administration, documentation, and reassessment; and performing Lead/Relief Charge Nurse duties. Education required is an Associate's Degree. Work experience required is 1-3 years in a direct patient care setting, with correctional care experience preferred. Licenses required include BLS-Basic Life Support and RN-Registered Nurse from DORA. Knowledge, skills, and abilities include adherence to professional nursing standards, ability to use medical equipment, effective communication, and ability to react calmly in emergencies. Shift is nights. Salary ranges from $40.96 to $63.49 per hour.
