Honeywell is hiring a Director, Government Relations to sit in Washington, DC and work on a hybrid schedule, plus 20% travel.

The Government Relations function at Honeywell is responsible for advising and advocating for legislative and regulatory policies that support Honeywell's business objectives, providing sales support for major contract wins with government customers and state-owned enterprises and enabling relevant tax, grant and incentive benefits that lower costs.

Success within the Government Relations function is measured by priority Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) developed each year in coordination with our Strategic Business Units, High Growth Region leadership and Honeywell's CEO. These KPIs are updated quarterly, and results are reported to Honeywell's senior leadership.

The Director, Government Relations will work directly with Corporate and SBG leaders responsible for developing and implementing business and policy strategies around trade and also leading international engagement in Washington with key foreign Ambassadors and other diplomats. YOU MUST HAVE:
  • At least 12 - 15 years of experience in either a government relations role in a large multi-national company, trade association or with one or more government agencies.
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Expert knowledge of international trade policy, agencies, and administration officials how they function, how to engage and influence.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information from multiple sources, identify and analyze the most relevant points for the specific audience and communicate effectively verbally or through written formats, including power point.
  • Ability to lead with influence rather than through direct reporting relationships
  • Experienced at interacting with officials and government relations professionals from different countries and cultures
  • Excellent internal stakeholder management: able to interact with a high level of credibility with all levels of leadership, including most senior executives within Honeywell, to influence, communicate, educate and enlist support for critical objectives.
  • Excellent external stakeholder management (senior public officials, members of congress). Need to be able to speak effectively and with credibility to all levels of government as a representative of Honeywell.
  • Strategic thinker. Ability to take issues and develop an effective strategy that allows us to be successful on those opportunities and then develop plans to execute those strategies to achieve results.
  • Demonstrable record of providing clients with advice that blends government relations experience, expert legislative knowledge and an understanding of, and appreciation for, a client's business objectives.
  • Acts with urgency, able to prioritize decisions and make decisions quickly and mitigate risk where needed.
  • Self-motivated, dedicated team player with a strong sense of ownership and accountability, interested in working to continuously improve the function.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Create and implement GR strategies in support of businesses trade objectives focused on securing necessary policies critical to HON objectives
  • Work with key SBG leaders develop one-Honeywell trade positions including but not limited to the USMCA and develop and implement GR engagement strategy to secure necessary policies in support of HON KPIs
  • Work with cross functional team to assess trade and tariff business impacts and to ID possible mitigation strategies
  • Coordinate the global GR team to manage trade priorities
  • Coordinate Honeywell consultants and trade associations to provide timely information and analysis of tariffs and their impact on Honeywell
  • Lead GR support for Honeywell Tariff Steering Committee
  • Build a network for Honeywell with government officials in the US including key foreign Embassies and manage stakeholder engagement for cross-business objectives
  • Lead the GR team in establishing and maintaining key relationships with US State Department and US Commerce Department's International Trade Administration
  • Advocate members Congress and the Executive Branch on trade issues as required
  • Advises on export compliance issues pertaining to changing US and foreign country export and compliance policies impacting import and exports of technologies, critical minerals and other materials important Honeywell manufacturing
  • Assist with key projects and business development requiring Embassy and other foreign government engagement
  • Partner with businesses to develop government relations strategies related to specific product initiatives and/or business imperatives.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on legislation and executive actions regarding trade and tariffs that impact Honeywell and our products.
  • Work with cross-functional team of attorneys, business leaders, customers, and other government relations team members to develop creative solutions that incorporate government relations into business problem solving.
Priorities/Initiatives for First Year:
  • Develop and execute a strategic engagement plan for Honeywell GR, business and functional leaders to effectively respond to and influence US trade policy to positively impact Honeywell's business priorities.
  • Review, develop and execute, with GR leadership, the recommended Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for trade including tariffs and other non-tariff barriers
  • Advocate for adoption of government policies, including legislation, regulations, and executive orders to avoid costs and drive HON growth.
  • Develop and manage Embassy engagement with top 20 Countries.
  • Manage HON engagement with trade associations around trade and tariff policy driving HON positions in Association activities.
  • Build relationships within the GR function, broader LGR function and with the business and functional teams in the US and key regions.
