Dentist – Texas Tech University Managed Care

Location: TDCJ J.B. Wheeler State Jail – Plainview, Texas (On-site)

Position Type: Full-Time

Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 6:00 AM – 4:00 PM (4x10 hour shifts)

Pay: $105/hour, paid weekly

Job Overview

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Managed Care is seeking a dedicated Dentist to join our healthcare team at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) J.B. Wheeler State Jail. In this role, you will provide essential dental care to incarcerated individuals, ensuring access to preventive, restorative, and emergency dental services in a correctional setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive dental care, including examinations, cleanings, fillings, extractions, and preventive treatments.
• Diagnose and treat oral diseases, infections, and injuries.
• Develop and implement appropriate treatment plans for patients with complex dental needs.
• Respond to dental emergencies and provide urgent care as necessary.
• Educate patients on oral health, disease prevention, and proper dental hygiene practices.
• Maintain accurate and detailed dental records in compliance with facility, state, and federal regulations.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure holistic patient care.
• Adhere to infection control and safety standards in a correctional environment.

Qualifications

• Licensure: Active Dentist (DDS or DMD) license in the state of Texas.
• Experience: Minimum of 1 year of dental practice experience (correctional or public health experience preferred).
• Certification: Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
• Skills:
• Strong clinical and diagnostic skills.
• Ability to provide compassionate care in a correctional environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational and documentation abilities.
