Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele Pulmonary night shift position requiring a SD or compact RN license and strong critical care skills.

Responsibilities

• Work in an acute care hospital setting on a combined 30-bed medical-surgical and 8-bed progressive care pulmonary unit
• Care for patients with conditions such as pneumonia, COPD, CHF, COVID-19, pulmonary embolism, and those requiring ventilator and complex respiratory support
• Patient diagnoses include post-operative care, oxygen therapy, IV medications, moderate sedation for bronchoscopies, chest tubes, tracheostomies, non-invasive and invasive ventilation, and cardiac monitoring
• Night shift schedule with 12-hour shifts, required to work every other weekend and holidays
• Travelers are first to float to other Med-Surg units as needed
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3 in Pulmonary Acute (IMC RNs) and 1:4-5 during days/1:5-6 on nights (med-surg)
• Uses Epic for documentation, Alaris pumps for IV fluids, and Acudose for medications
• RN traveler orientation includes competency validation for telemetry and mechanical ventilation plus precepted shifts
• Blue scrubs required for all shifts
• Supportive team culture with a focus on critical care skill development and quality patient outcomes
• Engagement in unit and hospital committees such as Patient Experience, Clinical Reasoning, and Service Excellence is encouraged
• Holiday coverage is required as part of the schedule
• All clinicians must badge in and out at the facility
• Candidates with previous employment at this health system must have an end date at least 6 months prior to consideration
• Local candidates may be accepted but pay may differ if they live within 80 miles of the facility

Requirements

• Active SD or compact state RN license required
• Minimum of 2 years of recent Med/Surg/Telemetry experience
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA required)
• Competency with Bipap, Cpap, Heated High Flow, oxygen titration, moderate sedation, and telemetry-required
• Experience working with Epic EMR preferred
• Ability to work with mechanical ventilation, non-invasive ventilation, and provide safe care for complex pulmonary patients
