Job Description

Overview

The Nephrologist is responsible for providing expert consultation and continuing care for patients with renal-related
conditions, including chronic kidney disease, acute kidney injury, and hypertension, while offering leadership to the
comprehensive care team managing complex medical issues. The physician works collaboratively within a
multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care that aligns with Central Health's mission to
improve the health and well-being of the communities we serve. The role may also include supervising advanced
practice providers and serving as an attending physician for learners at various levels. Preferred candidates will
have experience in FQHC or community health settings, demonstrate cultural competence in caring for diverse
populations, and excel in preventive care and patient education. Familiarity with value-based care models, EHR
systems, and telehealth is highly desirable, as is a commitment to addressing social determinants of health and
reducing health disparities.

Responsibilities

Examines patients, obtains medical histories and treats acute and chronic illnesses.
Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic tests.
Involves patients and their families in care and treatment decisions.
Collaborates on improvements in care delivery and service with staff, other physicians and management.
Initiates appropriate specialty referrals.
Provides clinical information to the interdisciplinary team in a clear and timely manner.
Ensures that proper patient documentation is timely, accurate and complete.
Works with practice management to ensure proper compliance with billing, coding and CPT code assignment.
Achieves and maintains optimal patient access.
Participates in the development of medical protocols, standard procedures and management of patient-care-related activities.
Gives feedback to and accepts feedback from all staff in respectful manner.
Acts in a positive and professional manner, complying with practice policies, procedures and federal and state laws.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Promotes health education in conjunction with other health professionals.
Advises the Director of Specialty of any problems that can affect the quality and efficiency of the organization.

Qualifications

Required:

MD or DO from an accredited medical school

Completion of a Residency in Internal Medicine

Residency in Internal
Medicine and Accredited Fellowship in Nephrology with Certification from the American Board of Medical Specialties.

2 years of clinical experience

Unrestricted licensed to practice Cardiology (Medicine) in the State of Texas Required
Board Certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine and American Board of Pulmonology
DEA - Narcotics License Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) number for the purpose of writing prescriptions Required
Basic Life Support (BLS) Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross Required
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Current Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) from
the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross Required
