Nuclear Security Officer

Holtec Security International is currently seeking Nuclear Security Officer s to join the team at the Palisades Power Plant in Covert, Michigan.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Nuclear Security Officer is responsible for providing physical protection of the Site and public against radiological sabotage, through compliance with all NRC security requirements as described in applicable Codes of Federal Regulations (10 CFR 73) and other relevant site policies and procedures.  This is accomplished by the following:

  • Controls entry processing of all individuals into protected and vital areas of the plant by verifying identity and authorization to enter. 
  • Conducts personnel and vehicle searches that are required in accordance with the plants security requirements. 
  • Responds to intrusion alarms as directed by the response team leader or as a Security Officer on patrol.
  • Deters attempts by unauthorized persons seeking to gain entry into protected or vital areas of the plant. 
  • Makes scheduled and unscheduled foot patrols of the protected and vital areas of the plant. 
  • Reports all security and safety violations observed. 
  • Keeps a record of patrols. 
  • Secures, protects, and assists at scenes of accidents, fires, and similar events. 
  • Performs as armed escort for persons or vehicles as required by the Security Plan. 
  • Operates company vehicle during patrol of Owner Controlled Area, and Emergency Operations Facility. 
  • Conducts operational tests of intrusion detection, and contraband detection equipment according to documented procedures.
  • Security Officers are subject to emergency call-in, 12 hour shifts and work under adverse weather conditions. 
  • The job also requires physical stamina for walking, climbing, etc., as per Nuclear Regulatory Commission Regulations.
  • Assisting other site organizations to provide security support as described in established  procedures.
  • Performing all site and fire watch patrols and maintain appropriate logs
  • Participating in security drills, practical exercises and required training programs as  directed.

EDUCATION, LICENSES and CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED

The Nuclear Security Officer, in addition to having the appropriate technical and tactical mindset, must be able to instill public and regulatory confidence in this role, and maintain necessary skills and qualifications.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be 21 years of  age.
  • Pass any State-required training or other qualifications for  licensing.
  • Must possess a current and valid driver’s license and ability to meet company driving standards. 
  • Must be able to obtain initial and maintain annual weapons  qualifications.
  • Must be a US citizen with no record of felony convictions and any recent convictions for crimes reasonably related to the activities of this job may disqualify an applicant.
