Job Description

Kadey-Krogen Yachts , a boat manufacturer of 50 years is seeking a mechanical or marine engineer to work as a team member alongside the principal Naval Architect/Design Manager to expedite technical information in support of the construction of existing and new models across three different brands in the KADEY KROGEN GROUP – Kadey Krogen | Summitt Motor Yachts | American Tug.

Responsibilities

  • Engineering> Systems and Outfitting: Engineer and procure documentation for outfitting, mechanical, electrical, propulsion, and steering systems following guidelines of ABYC and ISO for pleasure craft where applicable.
  • Engineering> Electrical Systems: Collaborate with electrical and electronics sub-contractors to facilitate procurement of systems schematics.
  • Engineering> Unique applications: Apply engineering principles in the design and installation of unique components including davits/cranes, masts, hydraulic swim platforms, tenders, gyros, fin stabilizers, anchoring equipment, sunshades and sunroofs.
  • Engineering> Fiberglass Composites: Apply engineering principles in the design of fiberglass composites as per ISO and ABS Standards for pleasure craft. Experience in vacuum-infusion processes and finite element analysis is a plus.
  • Weight, Trim, Balance: Manage existing studies (Excel) and assist in the development of 3D composite models that will be used to conduct weight calculations for future models (Rhino/Orca3D).
  • Interior Joinery: Assist in the preparation of interior joinery drawings (and 3D models where warranted) that reflect unique features of client work orders, interior design guidelines, and approved conceptual and detailed design.
  • Technical Support and Unique Part Procurement: Provide support to Production Manager and yard to facilitate the order of vendor equipment when required. Supply information to commissioning and sales teams.
  • New Product Development: Collaborate with team in the development of new models and updates to existing models
  • Explore opportunities that offer improvements in service and reliability in electrical, mechanical, and outfitting.
  • Explore advancements in technologies that can offer long term benefits across each of the brands in the Kadey-Krogen Group. This includes electric / hybrid propulsion, outfitting, power generation utilizing renewable energy, lamination materials and processes.
  • Provide service support for boats in commissioning and communicate with vendors as needed.
  • Perform ship checks of new vessels, updating documentation to suit when applicable.

Qualifications

  • Candidate must have a minimum of 3+ years’ working experience in the pleasure boat industry with a focus on power boat design and development. Knowledge of production and manufacturing is beneficial.
  • Software Experience: Must be proficient in design and documentation utilizing AutoCAD/AutoCAD LT (2D), Rhino3D, and Microsoft Office products. Experience with SolidWorks and Orca3D is a plus.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, marine engineering or related field.
  • Consideration shall be given to candidates who have applicable technical training in small-craft engineering and design or have an equivalent combination of education and experience.
