Join us and help turn student aspirations into reality! The Learning Resource Center (LRC) of Mat-Su College is seeking math tutors for the 2025-2026 academic year. The Elizabeth J. Fallon Learning Resource Center (LRC) offers tutorial services in math and writing for all MSC students. Math tutors are available during scheduled hours for any student enrolled in Mat-Su College courses. Tutoring is conducted face-to-face, and is available on a walk-in basis only. Math resources are also available for student use in the Learning Resource Center. Tutor hours vary each semester and are subject to change. Hours of availability for the current semester are posted outside the LRC and on the department web site. Tutors work with students in a variety of course work at different skill levels. Math tutors do not provide correction service for math homework; rather, they help students grasp principles of mathematics and devise strategies for using them.To thrive in this role, candidates must demonstrate mastery in all levels of algebra, including pre-algebra, elementary algebra, intermediate algebra and college algebra. Preference will be given to those who also have mastery of higher levels of math such as trigonometry and calculus. Successful candidates must also possess excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills; be able to work with students from diverse backgrounds; and be able to maintain confidentiality. Candidates must be able to communicate math concepts and skills to students from a wide range of college and developmental levels.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in math or a related field is required.
Experience teaching or tutoring in math or another field of mastery is required.Position Details:
This position is located at the Matanuska-Susitna College in Palmer, Alaska. This is a part-time, non-exempt, temporary position. New hires will be placed on the UA Temporary Staff Salary, Grade 77 .
