Aerovel Engineering Intern

Aerovel (the Airbus Helicopters Flexrotor program) is looking for an Engineering Intern to join our team based in Bingen, WA. You will be assisting engineers in activities either peripheral or directly linked with repairs or development projects for helicopters parts or equipment. Assigned project will be suited for completion within a period of 6 to 12 weeks.

Meet the Team: The Airbus Helicopters Flexrotor Program offers one of the most advanced small tactical unmanned aerial systems (STUAS) with vertical take-off and landing (VTOL). It can be used day or night by US and allied forces for a diverse range of intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance (ISTAR) on land and at sea.

Your Challenges: Primary responsibilities will vary based on the project available at the time, but almost always involve:

  • Receive and digest introduction to basic helicopter operation and design, engineering department roles and activities, assigned project goals.
  • Develop project schedule (phases/tasks list, milestones).
  • Create project execution report (content to be adjusted based on target audience).
  • Perform periodic reviews with direct supervisor.
  • Brief project execution/lessons learnt to Department Manager upon project completion.

Mechanical background based project examples include: research technical information for feasibility/obsolescence evaluation, perform maintenance, cataloging, or classification of existing technical data, create CAD models from legacy data or creating new CAD data, assist in prototyping activities, the functional definition/analysis of an intended design, the accomplishment of engineering airframe designs/analysis (and associated reports), repairs or modifications development programs requiring any type of mechanical or airframe analysis, detail design or testing (and associated reports), project execution performance analysis/improvement, data manipulation and analysis (and associated reports).

Systems/Electrical background based project may include: similar activities than mechanical based project except applied to electrical/systems topics.

Additional Responsibilities: Other duties as assigned.

Your Boarding Pass: Required:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Aeronautical, Mechanical, Industrial or Electrical Engineering from an accredited college/university.
  • Responsibilities will require resourcefulness, organizational skills and the ability to coordinate activities across company functions.
  • Must be a US Person under ITAR definition (U.S. Citizen, green card holder or person covered under our existing ITAR license).
  • Basic knowledge of 2D or 3D mechanical or structural, OR electrical design requirements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form in English.
  • Proficiency with Mathematic or Data processing software.

Preferred:

  • Minimum of 1 years' experience in 2D or 3D design of detail parts, electrical diagrams, functional diagrams, assemblies and/or installations.
  • Basic coding of data analysis or logical processing functions.

Physical Requirements: Onsite: 100% - Daily

  • Vision: able to see and read computer screen and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings daily.
  • Hearing: able to hear to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds including safety warnings or alarms daily.
  • Speaking: able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications daily.
  • Equipment Operation: able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment daily.
  • Carrying: able to carry documents, drawings, electronic equipment up to 10lbs daily.
  • Lifting: able to lift documents, drawings, electronic equipment up to 10lbs daily.
  • Pushing/Pulling: able to push and pull small office furniture occasionally.
  • Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on computer daily.
  • Squatting/Kneeling: able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving occasionally.
  • Standing: able to stand for discussions in offices daily.
  • Travel: able to travel independently and at short notice rarely.
  • Walking: able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces daily.
  • Personal Protective Equipment required: Steel-toed shoes are required for all shop floor visits, appropriate hearing/eye protection may also be required when visiting the shop floor.

Salary range: Hourly range based on the required profile: $24.25 - $30.25/hour for undergrad students based on your year in school; $36.25/hour for graduate students. Actual minimum and maximum may vary based on geographic differential. Individual pay is based on skills, experience, and other relevant factors.
