Position: ESL Teacher
Location: Plainfield, NJ 07060
Compensation: $55/hour
Job Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and results-driven ESL (English as a Second Language) Teacher to support elementary and middle school students in developing English language proficiency. Responsibilities:
Plan, organize, and deliver English language instruction aligned with state and federal standards.
Develop lesson plans utilizing a range of teaching strategies to support reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
Administer academic and language assessments (e.g., ACCESS for ELLs, MAP, interim assessments) to monitor progress.
Maintain accurate records of student growth and use data to refine instruction.
Adapt curriculum to support individual and small group instruction.
Establish and uphold high behavioral and academic expectations.
Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment.
Collaborate with grade-level teams to align instruction with WIDA English Language Development Standards.
Participate in professional development and scheduled faculty meetings.
Conduct regular check-ins with school leadership to discuss teacher and student performance.
Exhibit resilience and adaptability in a fast-paced educational environment.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the school leadership team.
Qualifications:
Valid New Jersey Teaching Certificate – Required
English as a Second Language CE or CEAS – Required
Minimum of 2 years full-time classroom teaching experience (charter school or urban setting preferred).
Bachelor’s Degree – Required ; Master’s Degree preferred.
Demonstrated record of academic gains and positive classroom culture.
Passion for educational equity and scholar development.
Ability to implement data-driven instruction and maintain high expectations.
Strong classroom management and lesson preparation skills.
Openness to feedback and a growth mindset.
Work Conditions:
Extended school day and calendar may be required.
Physical requirements include frequent standing, walking, lifting, reaching, and occasional travel between campuses.
Must be able to pass a criminal background check and provide TB/Mantoux clearance.
