PURPOSE STATEMENT
The Director of Communications & Development is a strategic leader responsible for managing internal and external communications, public relations, marketing, and brand strategy for Western Missouri Medical Center (WMMC). This role is key in enhancing the hospital’s visibility, engagement, and reputation through cohesive messaging and marketing campaigns. The Director also supports the WMMC Foundation by aligning marketing and communication efforts to elevate philanthropic initiatives and community relations. Additionally, this role provides oversight for the hospital’s Volunteer Program and directly supervises the Volunteer Services Supervisor. Your mission: drive patient, employee and provider trust, elevate brand awareness, and generate high-quality leads through innovative, data-driven digital campaigns.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Marketing & Brand Strategy
Develop and implement comprehensive marketing plans to promote hospital services, programs, and initiatives.
Maintain and evolve the WMMC brand across all channels, ensuring consistency and alignment with organizational values.
Oversee advertising campaigns, patient outreach strategies, and service line promotions in coordination with internal stakeholders.
Manage website content, digital advertising, and SEO strategies to enhance online visibility and user experience.
Communications & Public Relations
Lead external communication efforts, including press releases, media relations, community announcements, and crisis communications.
Coordinate internal communications to ensure timely and effective messaging to employees and providers.
Serve as the liaison with media outlets and represent the organization in interviews and public statements as needed.
Produce and manage content for newsletters, publications, and social media channels.
Foundation Support
Partner with the WMMC Foundation to support marketing and communications for fundraising events, campaigns, and donor engagement.
Assist in developing promotional materials, event branding, and storytelling that communicates the impact of philanthropy.
Ensure brand and message alignment between WMMC and the Foundation in all public-facing materials.
Team Leadership & Administration
Lead and mentor a team of marketing professionals, providing direction, support, and professional development.
Manage marketing and communications budgets, timelines, and vendor relationships.
Track key performance indicators to evaluate the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and adjust strategies accordingly.
Collaborate with senior leadership and department heads to identify marketing opportunities and support organizational priorities.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
Perform other essential duties as assigned.
Requirements:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related field.
5+ years of progressive experience in marketing and communications, including leadership experience.
Strong strategic thinking, writing, and project management skills.
Experience with digital marketing, social media management, and branding.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Preferred:
Master’s degree in a related field.
Experience in healthcare, nonprofit, or foundation communications.
Familiarity with design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc.) and marketing tools (e.g., Mailchimp, Google Analytics, Wordpress).
Knowledge of fundraising and donor communications best practices.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to sit and stand, intermittently 8 to 10 hours a day.
Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard.
At times may be required to work under pressure of near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines.
Continuously utilizes manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing.
Frequently stands, walks, sits and utilizes eye/hand coordination and color definition.
Occasionally reaches above shoulder, regularly required to life and/or carry up to 40 lbs.
Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces.
Ability to travel 0-10% of the time, including flying and driving rental cars.
To accommodate travel, must be able to transport own suitcases and portable computer estimated at 25 pounds.
