Ambulance Driver - Non-EMT Driver Location: Memphis, TN Department: Acadian Ambulance FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Shifts Hiring: Temporary, Full-time Job Summary Provide efficient and timely transportation of sick and injured to medical facilities for Basic Life Support calls, in accordance with local, state, national, and Acadian Ambulance standards. Reports To Emergency Medical Technician (EMT); EMT-Paramedic; Operations Supervisor/Coordinator; Operations Manager; Director of Operations; Regional Vice President. Special Notation While on duty, the ambulance driver is paired with an EMT, who rides in the patient compartment with all patients. “Shuttle vehicle” is used interchangeably with “ambulance” when operating a shuttle vehicle for non-emergency ambulatory patients. Equipment Ambulance, stretcher, folding stretcher, radios and computerized communications equipment, pager, fire extinguishers, simple mechanical tools. Other related equipment as introduced. Duties and Responsibilities Drive ambulance in BLS setting only to transport ill or injured persons to hospitals. Provide transportation for convalescent patients to and from nursing homes, medical facilities, etc.; BLS setting only. Assist in handling patients to and from the ambulance. Assist EMT or Paramedics in transferring patients to receiving personnel. After transport, complete all duties to ready ambulance and equipment for service (sanitize, remove soiled linens, etc.). Inspect ambulance and report deficiencies; maintain fluid levels. Operate ambulance safely following company guidelines. Complete assigned ambulance duties such as washing, waxing, cleaning. Perform other driving-related duties as assigned. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Current, valid state‑issued driver’s license (e.g., Louisiana Class D). Read, write, and communicate professionally with patients, employees, and managers. Knowledge of company protocols, operational procedures, safety policies, HIPAA, and lifting mechanics. Minimum one year of driving experience. Drive large vehicles in normal and adverse conditions. Determine fastest and safest routes using GPS. Interpersonal Requirements Maintain social, ethical, and organizational norms. Good personal motivation; ownership of job tasks. Sense of urgency. Remain calm under pressure. Effective communication with patients, family, and care providers. Training Requirements Orientation to job requirements. Physical Demands Must lift heavy equipment and patients, access difficult terrain, climb stairs, and work in hazardous environments.
